Did you know that you have been chosen?
Yes, chosen and no, 90’s folks I am not talking about Toy Story where The Claw would latch its jaws onto one of our squeaky aliens friends and take them to some foreign land. An unknown land where said Chosen One was usually dispensed into a drooling, snapping set of a canines canines.
Wow, sometimes it’s too bad I can’t take myself seriously enough to set the mood for a serious blog in a serious fashion. Oh well. Jesus loves me.
Anyhow, I was asking God what I should write about this morning. His answer was brief, succinct and very clear. He asked me to outline the fact that we so often forget that we, the Christ followers, have been chosen for a purpose.
That purpose being, to release our trust in all else but Him.
Practically, this could looks like us abandoning things we cling to…such as: comfort chosen in place of radical boldness, over-consumption of food, an identity that is contrary to His truth, bemoaning our looks and listening to music that isn’t good for our soul, giving ourselves over to worry, doubt and self pity… the list goes on and on. It includes anything and everything we hold on to as our security apart from God.
From personal experience I can tell you that leaning on those things instead of God will hurt us. They move us further away from our Creator as we are choosing idols over the One True God. This can lead to a meaningless life, self destruction and ultimately death of mind body and soul.
Just as it almost did to me…
Friends, we have not been called to latch onto death and allow it to take us for a ride. Instead, we have been chosen and equipped to grow in our knowledge of Him and share that knowledge with those who surround us. The treasure we, Christ followers, have been given is not one we keep to ourselves… we must share the joy and hope we have been given with others, just as Jesus did and does and we must do this with tenacity and boldness.
To reiterate and validate the points I just made I will use the well-preserved words of a man who went after Christ with everything he had, “indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ” Philippians 3:8 (ESV).
Geez. I think he’s on to something. He knew what he had been chosen for. He knew what he had been called to do. Ultimately, the author of this book has been given the desires of his heart. His thoughtfully crafted words have impacted the lives of billions for the truth about Christ, the most important person in His life.
In conclusion, lets dedicate ourselves to spending quality time with the God who chose us, Who calls us Sons and Daughters, the God who raised us up from death and decay to give us life abundantly. Yes, lets let go of everything that hinders us and give Him our all, just like He did and continues to do for us.
Much love <3
